What Does My Skin Type Deserve?
With more Beauties discovering our K-beauty playground and K-beauty in general, how about we take it back to the basics with skin types? If you’re a K-beauty beginner, I hope this gives you all the information, and if you're advanced in K-beauty, a refresher that is sometimes much needed.
First up, dry skin and dehydrated skin. Though, they may seem very similar, and you may be one or the other, or both, they differ. Dry skin’s texture can feel rough, tight and lacking softness and plumpness. If not taken care of, dry flakes and patches can form. Often, this can also mean you are more prone to fine lines and wrinkles developing.
So what do you need to look for? More nourishing textures! This can come from emollients or oil-based ingredients. Often this means more creamier-textured serums and dense creams. The Benton Ceramide Cream 10000PM may be just what you need! The fatty acid, ceramide will replenish your skin’s moisture without it feeling too heavy. It’s also rich in botanical oils to aid in strengthening your skin to heal any dry flakes that you may have.
Dehydrated skin on the other hand is craving hydration! Often they’re lacking the radiance and glow. If you find yourself relating to this yet are doing the most in your skincare routine, it could be because you have dehydrated skin. This means you need to incorporate ingredients like hyaluronic acid, panthenol, glycerin. Such hydrating ingredients can be found in water-based skincare like toners, essences and serums.
The Round Lab Birch Juice Moisturising Serum’s main ingredient is Birch Sap, also known as ‘coconut water’ for your skin. This serum also contains hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, a much smaller molecule than hyaluronic acid itself, meaning you’re getting even deeper hydration as it can penetrate further into the layers of your skin.
Contrastingly, oily skin is likely producing more sebum than say, dry skin types. Because of this, this skin type is likely to cause clogged and enlarged pores, blackheads and whiteheads and if this is not under control, acne breakouts can develop. Though, it is important to note you could be oily-dehydrated too! Greasy to the touch on your skin's surface but lacking hydration within. Or you could be both oily and dry which equates to a combination skin type. It is most common to have an oily T-zone and dry on the cheeks.
If you have an oily skin type, moisturising is key! Your skin can be compensating for the loss of moisture by overproducing sebum. Find lightweight lotions to fill up your skin with moisture without clogging your pores. The Innisfree Green Tea Hyaluronic Lotion is super lightweight but still gives you the necessary moisture, perfect for oily skin types. Not only that, it has Green Tea, both an antioxidant to strengthen the skin but also helps to minimise excess sebum. If you have combination skin type, it is best recommended to use separate skincare products to address the dry and/or oily areas individually.
With all the skin types above, it could also be sensitive. This is prone to irritation especially with certain active ingredients. But your skin can also become sensitised when breaking out. Either way, both need skin-strengthening and soothing ingredients. The Isntree Onion Newpair Clear Pad targets sensitive/sensitised skin by helping to calm the skin down while giving the nutrition to strengthen the damaged skin barrier. It is made out of super gentle cotton pads so you can even apply it as a quick sheet mask pack when you need some extra TLC.
What if you are either, neither dry, oily or combo? Well, count yourself lucky because you're under the normal skin type category. Your skin is compatible with a variety of different skincare products. So the best thing you can do is to take care of it and make sure it stays that way!
So that’s the different skin types out there! Of course, every individual is different and could be a combination of these different skin types. What’s important is curating the right skincare products with ingredients that are suitable for your skin’s needs. So find out your skin type here and start finding your holy grails. Good luck, Beauties!
