What are pores?
First of all, what are pores? Pores are very important for healthy functioning of the skin because they produce sebum to protect the skin from dirt and bacteria. Those tiny dots you see on the surface of your skin are pores. Pores are actually the openings of hair follicles. Each one contains a sebaceous gland, which produces your skin's oils.Â
How do pores get clogged & what even are clogged pores?
Clogged pores are the result of dead skin cells getting trapped in your skin instead of being shed into the environment. When pores are clogged, it can result in blackheads, whiteheads, and acne.

How can I unclog my pores?
#1: Double Cleanse
Most of us are wearing makeup and it does dry out our skin when it stays on our face for a long time đ And if you donât remove you makeup properly, the makeup residues and dirts that are on top of our skin ends up clogging your pores.Â
And the double cleansing methods are the most effective way to remove makeup (Use cleansing oils/balms and double cleanse with cleansing foams!) Using an oil-based cleanser does not only removes makeup but also help soften the oils that are trapped in the pore which keeps our pores clean, removes excess dirt, oil, and pollution.
*Remember to cleanse your face twice a day. In the morning a gentle cleanser will do.
#2: Use an exfoliator regularly (2-3 times a week)
Exfoliating is key when it comes to unclogging your pores. Exfoliating regularly with a chemical exfoliant such as BHA, (which is also known as Salicylic Acid), AHA makes pores less noticeable while purifying and unclogging pores for smooth, soft skin.
#3: Face steaming
By doing face steaming it opens your pores with the hot steam, softens the hardened oil inside the pores and helps loosen debris such as oil, blackheads, whiteheads.
- You can do face steaming by getting a face towel and wet it with hot water
- Wring the face towel, fold it and put it over the area where you want to extract such as nose/t-zone for 30seconds as the heat only lasts about 30sec. (and repeat this around 3 times!)Â
#4: Use Sunscreen
As you already know, using sunscreen is essential and plays an important role in preventing UV lights and the free radical damage, but it actually prevents your pores from getting clogged as well. UV light does not only cause free radical damage, but it also leads to pore problem âĄď¸ clogged pores. So, applying more sunscreen does help and try to reapply as possible!
