What to Bite: New & Cooking in Auckland’s Food Scene

You can join a run club or try pilates, but nothing quite wakes your soul up than the scent of an incredible meal. Hungry? We’re ravenous - wait till you see what’s been cooking in Auckland’s kitchens.

You’ve been warned; the latest to Auckland's food scene will trigger sudden hunger pangs and growling stomachs. When a small nibble turns into the city’s new talk, you know they’re doing something right. Queues for baked goods, lines for seaview dining, and waiters with their ears chewed off from cocktail connoisseurs are a reflection of our ever-blooming selections that are worth the bite, and we’re not complaining!

Bone-apple-teeth, it’s time to feast:

Cinnamon Squared

📍 41 Victoria Street West, Auckland CBD

Baked fresh twice daily, Cinnamon Squared's rolls are a force to be reckoned with. Name something better than a warm cinnamon scroll fresh out the oven…. I’ll wait. The scent of the store is already a blessing in itself, and you’d be lucky to score one with their high demand!

Served by the square, it’s airy and light, has the perfect chew, and rolls across the spectrum with the likes of your classic Ceylon cinnamon to cherry yoghurt or nutty Pistachio. To die for is no exaggeration - they’ve outlived the hype and you’re likely to see empty trays over leftover rolls!

Square Up:

🍞 Show up early, grab whatever’s hot, and prepare for love (if you haven't already).

truth/dare

📍 Snickel Lane, Auckland CBD

Part time intimate lounge, full time cocktail laboratory, truth/dare Bar is what happens when Indonesian flavours dare to dabble in European style! Prepare for the unexpected and open your mind to something totally memorable.

With each sip and bite you’re guided into new territory: sweet and spicy Melinjo crackers, crispy fried chicken with Kafir Lime and sambal mayo, Kopitiam Teh Tarik with a twist of oaky Woodfords Bouron… I bet you’re salivating.

We Dare You:

🍵 Little birdies have told me the Matcha Fizz is an absolute must! Whipped matcha foam cloud atop a refreshing Lychee and Coconut soda - but wait it doesn’t end there - the menu pairs this specialty with a Red and Matcha Cannoli (is this what dreams are made of?).

Takapuna Surf Club

📍 111 Hurstmere Road, Takapuna

By the same savvy folks behind the beloved Queen’s Rooftop, Takapuna Surf Club is a refreshing spritz of sea salt and class by the beach. Their rooftop location makes for the perfect perch with ocean views stretching from left to right and is ideal for any occasion.

Prepare for picture-worthy sights galore: their dishes are just as stunning as the scenery! Pizza with that chic puffy crust, zesty cocktails and seafood so fresh you could put it back in the ocean? Sounds like a bit of me.

Sea It, Taste It:

🌊 They ride the wave of seasons and their menu is ever-changing, but their hand-stretched pizza and Burger Night (Tuesdays) are elite! Think clubroom nostalgia, but elevated.

Fitzroy Deli

📍 19 Shortland Street, Auckland CBD

Once tucked away in the folds of Devonport, Fitzroy Deli expanded into the heart of Auckland CBD - a blessing with the curse being their overflowing popularity.

Airy Tuscan flatbread baked fresh with a soft inside and crispy outer, generously layered fillings that keep you coming back for more! Expect classic combinations that feel deliciously indulgent without the sickly feeling.

Fresh to Order:

🥪 Perfectly sliced mortadella, creamy stracciatella, fresh rocket, crunchy pistachio and punchy basil pesto soaked up by two pieces of brea d fresh out of the oven… I’d like Mortadella please, ASAP.

Grab your mates (or go solo - no one’s judging!) and explore new flavours, textures and bite into anything but the ordinary! In summary, ultra-delectible.

Who’s hungry? Beauties x
