Queue the routine: the annual freak-out, panic about not being “summer-ready” and wishing you’d started preparing a month earlier… But does it always have to be this way?

Whether you like it or not, summer is coming. Let’s try something new - abandon the sweat-fevered frenzy that takes away all the enjoyment every November. Here’s to focusing on different habits and new mindsets that actually make you feel good!

Reframe for soft girl summer:

Let It Go ❄️

(Breaking Up with 'Guilt')

No more perfect-body pressure or Pinterest-induced panic - there’s no leaderboard or awards ceremony for the best beach pics or the most aesthetic summer holiday, so don’t put all that unnecessary pressure on yourself (it’ll make you bald too).

Your brain is like a sponge; surround yourself with people who uplift, inspire and understand you, and invest in them. You are never a passive observer in your friendships, and it is so important to prioritise those who help you feel good about yourself.

🪩 Remember: this is the youngest you’ll ever be! Don’t look back and regret not enjoying the best years of your life.

Rise & Shine 🌅

(Embracing Consistency)

Let's cut mornings some slack - we’ve been tough on them and maybe we got the wrong first impression… As the days grow longer, warmer and sunnier, it becomes more important than ever to be mindful of NZ’s powerful UV index!

Tune your body clock to sync with the sun: earlier mornings will help you get your daily dose of Vitamin D at prime time. Find your favourite reason to get outside, whether it’s for a morning walk, sunrise run club or yoga and stretch on your balcony.

☀️ Bonus: Vitamin D + fresh air = serotonin boost and a touch of nature’s magic secret to a good day.

Working Everything Out 💦

(Burning Comparison & Toning Creativity)

No, not the gym (but you can if you want too). Swap out time-eating scrolls for a new hobby that gets the muscles in your brain pumping and the creative juices flowing! Knitting, dancing, reading, snorkelling… whatever tickles your pickle.

Getting those neurons firing and stretching your skills in ways your phone, day-to-day job or studies otherwise wouldn’t! It's a fantastic way to expand your personal development and problem solving skills, while also helping reduce stress and preventing burnout.

⛱️ Not-Your-Phone: It takes 66 days to break a habit - start now and you’ll find yourself reaching for your book or crochet needles when you head to the beach!

Hit Replay & Reminisce 🎞️

(#TBT Core Childhood Memories)

Who doesn’t love a little nostalgia? Juicy watermelon after running around all day, singing to music with the car windows down, building complex architectural projects using sand, water and seashells - remember those days?

Recreate those fun memories by yourself, or share them with friends and relive them together! You’re younger self will love you for it, and you might just create new core memories that you’ll treasure forever.

⏮️ Major Rewind: Message your BFF or pop a message in the group chat and save a special day to commemorate those core memories together!

Do the Least, Get the Most 💝

(Less is Better)

Channel your inner chill guy: go with the flow, leave blanks in your calendar, don't fill them. Type A readers - I see those internal headshakes - but seriously, hear me out. Sometimes maximum enjoyment comes from minimal effort.

It’s often the expectations we set that let us down, leave us disappointed and ultimately drain our social batteries. Leave room for nothing days between your other commitments - it also allows for more spontaneity and unexpected adventure!

🇮🇹 Tip for Type As: No, it’s NOT lazy. Let’s romanticise it for you… the Italians call it “Dolce far niente” aka. the sweetness of doing nothing~

Amp That Energy UP! ⬆️

(Add Fuel to Your *Fire* Body)

Take advantage of the gift or fresh fruits and veggies that sprout as the weather continues to bloom! It’s nature's tropical cocktail: strawberries, mango, coconut water and some lemon to garnish will do the trick.

In the heat of summer you’re going to sweat more and wear a little less, so topping up your energy is crucial to keep your body functioning at optimal levels! If you’re worried about bloat, remember it’s human - we all get it and some water and gentle movement will work wonders for you.

💧 Hydrationnn: Don’t forget to hydrate! Even summer doesn’t let it slide - tuck in on cucumber, watermelon and other produce with high water contents.

Forget the checklists. Leave them at work and savour the messy, silly and totally real moments that come with the unexpected! Laugh so much you cry, nap if you need to, and document things because you feel like it not because you think you should - why do you need proof you had fun?
