Scrolled past some celeb merch and thought, “Wait, is this for real?” Spoiler: It is - and it’s even weirder than you think.
If you’ve ever wondered what happens when celebrities are given too much creative freedom (and maybe not enough supervision)? Welcome to the wild and wacky minds of A-list artists, actors and celebrities where possibilities are endless and imagination knows no limits. Gone are the days of basic merch - they’re bold, bizarre, and maybe even genius?
Enter the wild imagination of celebrities:
Practical meets playful - Justin Bieber’s latest merch features a phone case with a built-in compartment, similar to Hailey’s viral Rhode lip case. On Instagram, Justin joked, "Please approve this idea @haileybieber lmfao,” revealing the light-hearted humour they share in their relationship. It’s cheeky, convenient and a creative accessory for anyone who’s daily essentials aren’t a Rhode Peptide Lip Balm …and a cute opportunity to match? Genius or joke, we’re kind of here for it.
Throwback to this global-headliner - Gwenyth Paltrow made her mark with the release of her special candle that sparked many interestingconversations. Far from your usual home fragrance, Paltrow described this product as a “punk rock F-you” to anyone who shames women about their bodies and how it’s meant to be a “really strong feminist statement.” While it brought controversy and even lawsuits over safety, and didn’t quite land the way she intended, it got us rethinking what empowerment can smell like.
Cheekily dubbed “Blunt Marketing,” Snoop Dogg teamed up with Solo Stove to promote their smokeless fire pits. Known for his cannabis advocacy, this campaign brought humour and complete sell-out to this innovative product. As Snoop put it, “Ima be blunt. If this doesn’t make me one of the best marketers then you must be smoking.” A humorous take that blends practical gear with good vibes that makes backyard fires cooler and a bit more fun.
Noah Cyrus kept it truly personal with a special keepsake for her “Good Cry” tour - a tiny vial labelled “Noah Cyrus Tears” containing approximately 12 tears from Noah “as a result of sadness.” A unique piece of merch that takes personal to a whole another level and embraces her vulnerability and authenticity. Our thoughts? Honestly, genius and so on-brand.
At the end of the day, however bizarre or wild celeb merch gets, it reminds us that it’s okay to be a little different, a little quirky, and a whole lot of ourselves. So why not have fun with it?
