Was Rejected by Dream Academy… Now Could She Win a Grammy for Best New Artist?
Before the pink hair, solo releases and growing fanbase, Adéla was one of the hopefuls competing to become part of a brand-new global girl group through Dream Academy.
The competition was a massive collaboration between HYBE, known for managing BTS and Geffen Records, a famous American record label, with the ultimate goal of forming what we now know as KATSEYE. The whole process was big enough to become its own Netflix documentary, Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE.
And Adéla? She was eliminated during the very first rounds.
Plot twist: that wasn't the end of her story.
Rather than letting the elimination be the final chapter, Adéla took things into her own hands and stepped into her solo era. She released her own EP, Provocateur, and began carving out an identity that was completely her own.
Her influences are just as iconic as you’d expect, drawing inspiration from Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Madonna. But instead of simply recreating the pop stars she grew up admiring, Adéla has been turning those influences into an aesthetic that feels distinctly hers.
And the industry started taking notice. Demi Lovato even brought Adéla along as an opening act for her world tour, giving the rising artist an even bigger stage to introduce herself to new audiences.
Fast-forward to now, and Adéla has gone from Dream Academy contestant to a solo artist with a growing cult following. Her track “Ain’t in LA” has been making waves, while her instantly recognisable pink hair has become almost as iconic as the music itself.
Her latest album, Prima, takes things even further, with Adéla embracing and showcasing her Slovakian roots as part of her evolving artistic identity.
And the numbers are starting to reflect the buzz. Prima debuted at #85 on the Billboard 200, marking another milestone in what has been a pretty major glow-up from where she started.
From being cut in the first rounds of Dream Academy to opening for Demi Lovato and building her own pop universe, Adéla is proving that sometimes rejection really is just the beginning.
So, Grammy’s Best New Artist? We’ll be watching… Plus, Stream “Prima” and keep an eye on Adéla - this is just the beginning.
