Reasons For Your Never Ending Acne

by Natalie Ong

Hiya lovely beauties 💕

Having clear skin is such a dream, but for the beauties battling with acne-prone skin, it seems nearly impossible to achieve that 😪 . As someone who had to deal with acne for 5 long years, I noticed some bad habits that can be the cause of acne. Here are a few of these tips I’ve picked up on to help you avoid that!

Always Keep Your Skin Clean

I’m sure you have heard this many times, but I’m here to say it again, please keep your face clean! Not giving your skin a proper cleanse after a whole day of makeup, sweat and dirt is a big NO NO 🙅 . However, over washing and exfoliating your face could also be extremely harmful! Exfoliating on acne-prone skin can cause irritations and worsen your acne, preventing your skin to heal properly. Washing your face too often can overly strip your skin, which can weaken your skin barrier and prone to breakouts.

The trick is to keep a healthy balance! I recommend trying the double cleanse system at night, especially after a long day out (Have a read of Robin's HI-TIPS on Double Cleansing!). I personally use the Heimish All Clean Balm to melt all my makeup easily without causing any irritations. Follow up with a gel cleanser, my favorite is the Hemish All Clean Green Foam, it’s very gentle and won’t overly dry or strip my skin. In the morning, I wash my face with only water 💧!

Avoid Touching Your Face & Acne

This is a bad habit I am still guilty of, try not to touch your face with your hands! Your fingers can bring bacteria to your skin which is a common cause of your breakouts. This means you most definitely cannot squeeze or pick at your acne! Your skin can be easily damaged this way, causing inflammations and takes longer to heal.

My favorite products to help avoid that are the Cosrx AC Collection Ultimate Spot Cream and Acne Pimple Master Patch. I always apply my trusty Spot Cream on red and inflamed bumps before bed. It really helps soothe and calm my skin, also acts as a protective barrier to the harmful bacterias. For the whiteheads, I stick on the Pimple Patches to heal each spot and to resist my urge to squeeze them 🤭 . This way, your acne won’t be irritated and leave any scarring!

Other Things to Watch Out For!

It’s important to keep your face and hands clean, but make sure to do that for other things too! Start off with cleaning your phone, bacteria from your fingers can build up on your screen, which can lead to possible breakouts. Give your phone a daily rubdown to keep it clean and shiny.

Another habit that you should have is to keep your hair mint and fresh 🍃 ! Oils from your hair can cause inflammations and trigger your acne. Wash your hair more often or keep it away from your skin, especially if you have oily hair.

The other things that should be cleaned regularly are your makeup brushes and pillowcases. Brushes are full of bacteria and oil that can cause acne, especially if you use it on your face daily! Pillowcases are also hidden with germs, oils and bacteria, and we sleep on it every night. Try to wash your brushes and replace your pillowcases at least once a week to avoid breakouts.

These are just some easy tips I discovered that stopped my acne from getting any worse! However if your acne never seem to go away, it could be caused from stress, hormones or allergies and that is unfortunately hard to get rid of 😥 . Don’t be afraid to reach out for help from a dermatologist or a doctor. Acne is extremely persistent and annoying, but don’t lose hope beauties, there is always a cure to this evil bug. Hope you enjoyed and learnt something from me today, take care and stay safe!
