The Importance of Scalp Care

by Larissa Tsui

Like most things, great things start from their roots. And of course, hair is no less. Your hair health is determined by your scalp health. Imagine, your scalp being the soil of a farm. Poor soil will affect the well-being of the plants growing on it. So, a healthy scalp = healthy hair 🤝

Our scalp contains about 100,000 follicles, and each follicle has a single hair that grows. The follicles also produce sebum that keeps the hair moisturised and protects the skin from infection. Without the protection, the scalp can lead to dandruff, eczema, and even seborrheic dermatitis. These conditions are linked to hair breakage, rough hair, reduced hair shine and even premature hair loss. So let's get that healthy hair starting with proper scalp care!

Stop Stripping with Shampoo

Shampooing your hair too frequently strips away the natural oils and proteins, which keeps the hair healthy. It can also backfire and produce more oil to make up for it which can result in even oilier-looking hair. It’s also important to avoid products that contain sulphates and alcohol. They can strip away natural oils and make your hair feel dry and be more prone to irritation.

The Pyungkang Yul Low pH Scalp Shampoo is a sulfate-free shampoo so it’s non-drying and non-stripping. The five main ingredients are mild and amino acid-based surfactants (the cleansing agent that cleans your hair) that allow the shampoo to have a lower pH level than traditional shampoos. So it gently cleanses without stripping your hair of its natural oils.

Scalp Scrub for Stronger Hair

Just like our skin, unwanted dead skin cells and products can build up on our scalp. So use a scalp scrub once or twice a week to get rid of build-ups and stimulate blood flow to the area to encourage hair growth.

The Aromatica Rosemary Scalp Scrub is packed with Israeli dead sea salt as the exfoliant which fully dissolves in water. Rich in over 30 types of minerals, it works not just as an exfoliant to get rid of dead skin cells, but also works to deeply nourish your hair. This keeps each strand strong and healthy while regulating the balance of the scalp microbiome. This scrub can be used in place of a shampoo, so you don’t need to worry about the extra step too!

Avoid Tugging

Pulling your hair back too tightly puts tension on the scalp and follicles which can cause breakage and eventually even hair loss around your temples. This doesn’t mean you have to stop doing updos completely. Just wear it loosly, or adjust the position so the tension is not always in the same spot. If this is a concern for you or if you are experiencing this already, try using a treatment to maintain hair strength.

The Some By Mi Cica Peptide Anti Hair Loss Derma Scalp Treatment strengthens the scalp and hair root with its scalp-friendly ingredients of Cica, Peptide and Black Complex to alleviate hair loss symptoms. Massage your Scalp

Want healthier and thicker hair growth? Try massaging your scalp! Not only does it provide relaxation, but it also promotes blood circulation to your hair follicles. By promoting oxygen circulation and vital nutrients to your follicles, it encourages hair growth.
