HI-REVIEW: Neogen Real Ferment Micro Serum
Hi Beauties!
Are you looking for a serum that is both hydrating AND brightening, yet at the same time not irritating? Well, let me introduce you to the Neogen Real Ferment Micro Serum~
Product Features
With a formula that includes 61% fermented ingredients, the Micro Serum delivers a concentrated boost of nutrients and antioxidants to the skin.
So I guess the million dollar question is - are fermented ingredients really that good for our skin? The answer is…a big yes! The fermentation process breaks down the ingredient molecules which means they can penetrate deeper and absorb better into the skin. Fermented skincare ingredients are claimed to be beneficial for the skin’s microbiome as they are enriched with amino acids and antioxidants. Strengthening the skin's microbiome is so important to keep the skin healthy.
How to use: Apply after toner on cleansed face. Follow with moisturiser.
Price: $59
Quantity: 30mL
Packaging: Glass bottle with a pump. The glass bottle is super sturdy but in my opinion not very travel friendly if you have weight restraints.
Texture: This has a gel-like opaque texture that spreads nicely. Not gonna lie, it looks more like a moisturiser than a serum when I first saw it 😂
Scent: This product has no fragrance hence no scent.
I really like the ingredient list and here’s a mini breakdown of the key features:
- Bifida ferment lysate – this is at the top of the ingredient list and is a probiotic ingredient derived from yeast that helps strengthen the skin barrier and encourages skin repair. This ingredient is also found in the iconic Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum.
- Saccharomyces ferment filtrate – restore skin elasticity
- Betula alba juice – provides antioxidant benefit
- Rice ferment filtrate – brightens complexion and balance oil production
Further down the list (I tried to keep it short but there are so many worth mentioning and I can’t contain my excitement), you will also see popular and well-loved ingredients such as niacinamide, vitamin B5 (panthenol), hyaluronic acid, centella asiatica, Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and Vitamin E (tocopherol).
Personal Experience
I’ve been using this serum for almost 2 months and took it with me while I travelled to Japan and Taiwan. So it’s fair to say, I’ve tested this in most weather conditions, from summer in New Zealand, to winter in Taiwan with higher humidity and even extremely cold temperature where it was snowing in Japan!
It leaves a smooth finish and the silicone feeling is slightly noticeable as dimethicone is quite high on the ingredient list. But this left my skin feeling more nourished and “sealed” the serum as well as skincare products that I applied previously too. It performed well in my AM and PM routine, no pilling and can be used with active ingredients (chemical exfoliation and retinol) as well.
I still like to layer a water-based serum (I’ve been using the Klairs Fundamental Watery Oily Drop) before sealing it up with this serum and my moisturiser.
I personally don’t have the Neogen Real Ferment Micro Essence from the same line so I’m not sure if the duo will deliver even greater results. But with consistent use of the serum, I’ve noticed my overall complexion to be brighter. The results are subtle but definitely noticeable! At first I didn’t think it was due to the serum but even my mum asked me what product I have been using recently 😂
This serum is packed with so many skin benefiting ingredients and is gentle yet effective. I would say it is suitable for all skin types, especially those with sensitive skin but also wanting the antioxidant benefit and brightening effect.
For those who struggle with Vitamin C at a higher dosage (5%+), I feel you because I’m in the same boat. But fear not, this serum contains a very low percentage of Vitamin C (it’s found at the very end of the ingredient list) so no stinging sensation will be experienced.
Hope you find this review helpful! Wishing you a good skin and hair day xx
