HI-REVIEW: Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Hyaluronic Essence

by Cindy Lu

Hi Beauties!

Have you ever heard of using rice in your skincare? Known as Oryza Sativa Extract, rice is a commonly used ingredient in both skincare and haircare. The Haruharu Wonder Hyaluronic Acid Essence brings a unique twist to this by using Fermented Black Rice instead. It claims that this essence is a “lightweight, anti-aging essence that leaves the skin soft and fresh with zero sticky residue”.

Price: $37

Quantity: 50mL

How to Use: After toner, apply an appropriate amount to the entire face and lightly pat to absorb.

The most stand-out feature of this product is how sleek the packaging is! Similar to other Haruharu Wonder products, it comes in an oval packaging with a twisting cap. The nozzle is particularly great and hygienic as it squeezes out the essence without leaving a huge mess around the nozzle.

In terms of the texture of this product,  it indeed is super light-weight as it claims. As soon as you apply the essence, it disappears into your skin so quickly! It dries down very fast and does not leave any oily residue on the skin. The essence very faintly smells sweet, but it's so light that you don’t notice the scent unless you really try to smell it.

Deionized Water, Glycerin, Betaine, Propanediol, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Phyllostachys Pubescens Shoot Bark Extract, Aloe Vera Leaf Extract, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Aspergillus Ferment, Hyaluronic Acid, Beta-glucan, Carbomer, Xanthan Gum, Trehalose, Tromethamine, 1,2-Hexanediol, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Phytate, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Polyglyceryl-10 Myristate, Pulsatilla Koreana Extract, Usnea Barbata (Lichen) Extract, Zanthoxylum Piperitum Fruit Extract, Cyclodextrin, Alcohol, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil

This essence is packed full of great ingredients. It contains plenty of hydrating and moisturizing ingredients such as glycerin, betaine, and hyaluronic acid which help with dehydrated and flakey skin issues. It would also be beneficial to those with sensitive or irritated skin as it contains Aloe Vera and beta-glucan which are skin-soothing ingredients.

The most unique ingredient as we mentioned earlier was the fermented black rice. Fermented ingredients are widely used in Korean skincare in anti-aging products as it is able to transform ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin. Rice extract is also known for being able to brighten, which would be beneficial for hyperpigmentation and acne scars!

Personal Opinion

During my use of this product, I really enjoyed having an extra light-weight but moisturizing essence in my routine. With my combination skin, using this essence regularly improved the appearance and texture of my dry patches around my nose and cheeks. It is the perfect hydrating product for summer for all skin types! I can also see this being amazing for those with generally dehydrated but oily skin as it is super light-weight and non-oily. It would also be good for those with an extensive skincare routine as it is great for layering!

A tip that I would recommend for this product (or any hyaluronic acid essence/serum) would be to apply your skincare straight after your shower to draw the surrounding moisture to your skin!

In terms of the anti-aging claims, I can’t really speak on it as I only used it for a month and there wouldn’t be that big of a difference in such a short time. I also didn’t really notice any other improvements to my skin such as brightening or changes to my acne.

I would also say that this product may be TOO light-weight for people with dry skin, especially during the winter time when dry skin is usually worse. I had a pretty positive experience despite my dry spots, but I think the fact it was summer and my dryness wasn’t super bad made it better. If you have dry skin, I would only recommend this product if you have another hydrating serum/oil in your routine OR if you’re looking for something light during the hot summer.

Thanks for reading ❤️

Happy Shopping!
