HI-REVIEW: COSRX Low pH Good Night Peeling Gel

by Charlotte Wright

When cleaning anything we tend to always go for the intense approach. If we throw everything we have at it, it will come out as good as new!  However, going too intense can cause damage. Imagine how your car’s paint job would look like if you went at it with a metal dish scrubber…

Exfoliation is a key part of any routine but as with caring for anything, you need to figure out what will work best for your skin. Even if your skin is oily there may be some products that are too stripping, or if your skin is sensitive some gentler products might not be strong enough to make a difference. The key is trail and error and taking it slowly, step by step.

COSRX Low pH Good Night Peeling Gel is a great place to start for any skin type, it gives a very gentle daily exfoliation to stay on top of any pore congestion.

The core ingredient in COSRX Low pH Good Night Peeling Gel is Lactobionic Acid which is a PHA. PHA’s (Polyhydroxy acids) are a type of hydroxy acid. Other hydroxy acids include AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acid) and BHA’s (beta hydroxy acid).

All three are used to help with sun damage, reduce signs of aging, hydrate and tone skin however PHA’s are a lot gentler on skin and the risk of irritation to sensitive skin is significantly reduced. This is mainly due to PHA’s having a larger molecular structure, so it takes longer for it to penetrate the skin. This makes it a favourite amongst eczema and rosacea sufferers.

Additional ingredients in this product include Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid, for the anti-inflammatory and hydrating properties.

My experience

With combination skin I sometimes struggle with exfoliating cleansers as my t-zone requires something medium strength but the outside of my face is dry and can feel stripped from harsh products.

I enjoyed how gentle the COSRX peeling gel was and I felt happy and comfortable using it on my skin every night. My face felt fresh without feeling stripped or sore.

The texture of this product is very interesting, it looks slightly grainy when squeezed out but as soon as you rub it into your skin another texture forms. I’m not sure if this is the excess skin being peeled off or just what happens to the product itself when used. Either way it feels like it’s working!

COSRX packaging is always a winner in my eyes. It is simple and secure plus their products are fragrance free adding to the reasons they are a saviour for the sensitive skin community.

If you are new to the exfoliation game or it’s a key part of your routine already, I think this product is worth a try. Consider this product especially if you suffer from sensitive skin conditions, I believe it is a great place to start. A helping hand in battling mask-ne and the on-going battle of skin congestion.

Your skin may thank you!
