If TikTok has taught me anything lately, it’s that apparently I’m surrounded by “propaganda” - and not the old-school, moustache twirling kind.
We’re talking about the ever-changing trends, beauty hacks, and social expectations we’re all just accepting. But why? What happened to trusting our own judgement?
Inspired by the “Propaganda I Am Not Falling For” trend circulating on TikTok, here’s my own list of things that I’m just not quite on board with. No shade if you’re all for it, obsessed, or 100% disagree - these are things I’m officially leaving on read.
Six hot-takes I can’t pretend to love:
Someone remind me why this is still a thing? Let's give it a rest and put this gimmick to bed.
Stop commentating on women’s bodies and what the ‘ideal’ body is every year - we’re here for real health, not the extremes.
Move your body because it feels good, eat all your food groups but also allowing yourself treats with friends because you want to, treating yourself with love, grace and kindness because you deserve it.
While I’d love to be young forever, I’m not thrilled by the idea of freezing my face in my 20s.
Personal take, but I’m just not convinced this will improve my quality of life in the long term - Botox every few months, forever?
The cost racks up over time, some bodies develop a resistance, and there's not enough science to back that it’ll actually work long-term either.
While I’m loving the influencer transparency, let’s not normalise this - instead fall victim to a solid skin routine, SPF 50+ and drinking water everyday.
I love turtles and I want to save them, but there are better ways to go about this than soggy straws. Albeit, the intent is there, but the delivery? Not so much.
Most of these are actually coated in plastic, and are full of glues and dyes. Plus, they use more resources to make and don’t even decompose as quickly as you’d think.
Unless you’re a fan of paper pulp and microplastics in your iced drinks, I’d probably suggest you opt for something a little more solid like a glass or metal straw - how are you going to enjoy your $10 drink if the straw gives up halfway through?
Life’s too short to pretend you’re too cool for the things you actually enjoy!
Pretending to act unbothered and uninterested actually limits you from making authentic connections with people who will actually get you.
Why dampen your mood to be more palatable? If they don’t match your energy, they’re not for you.
If your “friend” downplays your achievements and brings up old mistakes, but seems to copy everything you do… are they really your friend?
Urban Dictionary says friendship is when you love someone and genuinely want them to be happy - “even if it means sacrificing something to make them happy.” While it sounds a little extreme, jealous friends would sacrifice themselves to make you unhappy.
Friends should bring you up, not make you feel small or make you question your growth or value.
Since when was it such a crime to take a photo of food of all things?
Cameras exist to capture memories - it’s literally what they were made for. If that memory is a photogenic salmon bagel or delectable pasta with your best friend, snap away and earn that spot on your grid.
With that being said - don’t let it take you away from being in the moment! As long as you’re not letting your food go cold or ignoring the conversation, snap a picture or two, then put the phone down and enjoy your meal.
Trends, fads and cancel culture come and go, but staying true to yourself? That’s always in style. Do what feels right for you - no propaganda required.
Stay real, Beauties x

Thank you for these short yet spot on article.
If only all the young people just stop and think for themselves with common sense instead of absorbing all these false information for the sake of being “cool”.
Keep up with the good work 😉
